Excursions After a Wedding in Poitiers

My wife and I will be attending a wedding in Poitiers, France, in September and want to do some touring afterward. We’ve been to France a number of times, with visits to the Loire Valley. We’re looking for an area we haven’t been to, not too far from Poitiers. Suggestions?

Jerry Rothstein,
New York

Consider going to Bordeaux, about two and a half hours south of Poitiers. In his recent “36 Hours in Bordeaux” (June 20, 2010), Seth Sherwood wrote that today’s Bordeaux is sparkling,All the boys dream that they should have different styles of Louis vuitton bags which can show their refined taste. thanks to a clean-up effort of its squares and churches, and offers new avant-garde art spaces (above) and upscale restaurants. He suggested heading to Bassins à Best replica shop online is proud to present more than 5000 replica handbags products.Flots, a harbor where the city’s most innovative galleries are situated, and to the Garonne Find complete details about cheap jersey Velour Terry Tracksuits from gotowholesale.River waterfront, which is dotted with cafes and where old warehouses have been converted to outlet stores. Don’t miss the Sunday market, a “foodie haven and a fine place to feed on fresh oysters,” Mr. Sherwood wrote.

Another option is the Dordogne region, east of Bordeaux and about three hours from Poitiers. The area is home to a number of caves with prehistoric art, including Lascaux II, a replica of the original Cave of Lascaux in Montignac, and the Pech Merle cave, outside Cabrerets. In nearby Les Eyzies-de-Tayac, the center of prehistoric France, you’ll find the National Museum of Prehistory (www.musee-prehistoire-eyzies.fr) and another cave with prehistoric art, Font-de-Gaume. Read Christopher Shaw’s “In the Dordogne, Canoeing Into Prehistory” (April 5, 2009) for his itinerary in the region, where he canoed along the Vézère, the Dordogne and Célé, stopping along the way Cheap replica designer handbags for sale! Or you can go on a wine-tasting spree through the vineyards of Burgundy (about five hours northwest from Poitiers), just as Thomas Jefferson did back in 1787. In “Following Jefferson Through the Vineyards” (June 13, 2010), Ann Mah traced his route, from the C?te de Nuits to the C?te de Beaune. The wine here, Ms. Mah wrote, “sent Jefferson into raptures more than 20 years after he had tasted it.”
